About this Event
Discover the inspiring story of Harriet Colfax, Michigan City’s legendary lighthouse keeper. For 43 years, Harriet faithfully tended the harbor light, guiding sailors through the dangerous waters of Lake Michigan while witnessing the city’s transformation from a frontier settlement to a thriving community.
Join us as we explore the courage, resilience, and lasting legacy of the woman whose light became a beacon of hope along the Indiana shoreline.
Guest speaker is local author, Sandra L. Young.
Sandra L. Young is honored to have portrayed Michigan City lighthouse keeper Harriet Colfax on several occasions at the Old Lighthouse Museum. After researching Harriet’s inspiring career, she began presenting it as a program for area history buffs, donning garments from her extensive vintage clothing collection. In addition, Sandra’s passion for vintage fashion inspired her to write her locally-based Divine Vintage book series, published with The Wild Rose Press. Her website at SandraYoungAuthor.com features a few of her fun garments that are included in the book, plus a form for contacting her with book club or presentation interest.
Please note: Program length may vary slightly depending on guest count and other event factors. All programs begin promptly at the scheduled start time. Guests may arrive up to 15 minutes prior to the program; earlier entry cannot always be accommodated.
